Resum

As part of the global community, we are all aware that research plays an extremely important role in expanding the body of knowledge and in prospect development. This Conference aimed at presenting the latest research, solutions and strategies in the domain of integral protection of stored products, with the emphasis on prevention, pest detection, biorational physical and biological control methods, and ultimately with the aim of preventing damages and reducing postharvest losses. This event, like the previous events throughout the years, gathered the most prominent experts and scientists who work in the field of the protection of stored products from pests. Therefore, the Conference presented a unique opportunity to exchange information about current problems and solutions, and to affirm professionals in the field of plant protection, post-harvest and storage technology, digital technologies, and pesticide applications techniques. The selected topics depicted a vast pool of knowledge, resources and expertise of the scientific and technological community, which in turn made a substantial contribution for overall national development. The 14th Conference of the IOBC-WPRS Working Group on the “Integrated Protection of Stored Products (IPSP)” took place in Novi Sad, Serbia, from September 16th to 20th, 2024, with Sonja Gvozdenac, PhD (Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, National Institute of the National Institute of the Republic of Serbia – IFVCNS) as the WG Local Organizer. The IFVCNS is the largest biotechnical research institute of the West Balkans, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia. The Institute conducts research in biotechnology, genetics and breeding, seed production, pest management (phytopathology, entomology, phytopharmacy, toxicology), microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, soil science, and so on. In the course of 85 years, the Institute has devoted special attention to plant breeding, and became the leading plant breeder in the country and gained international reputation. In 2018, IFVCNS became the National Institute of the Republic of Serbia as a result of hard work and valuable results implemented into agricultural practices during the long history of research and development, which also contributed to the international scientific recognition to the Institute. Many of the current challenges in the management of stored products are still considerably present since the group last met, and pests continue to be a major quality concern for the food industry. It is therefore of paramount importance to enhance the use of established Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques and to develop novel methodologies to preserve the quality of stored commodities, to mitigate and prevent economic losses and, at the same time, to minimise any adverse impact on the environment. As with previous meetings of our group, we aimed at bringing together the latest advances in research and development on stored product protection and to promote the exchange of information and collaboration for future research. The Conference was organised in seven (7) sessions: 1. Biology, ecology, biodiversity and behaviour of stored product pests; 2. Biological control and natural products in stored product protection; 3. Physical control, controlled atmospheres, hermetic storage and extreme temperature in stored product protection; 4. Chemical control of stored product pests and pest resistance; 5. Prevention methods from postharvest to final product; 6. Food and feed safety and 7. Stored product insects as food and feed. All contributions presented in the meeting are reported in this book of proceedings, either as full publication or as extended abstract. This conference hosted more than 40 presenters registered from ten different countries and four continents, with around 40 oral and over 10 poster presentations, thus maintaining the high quality of all contributions. VII The Conference embraced two Workshops: “Interactive Workshop on Stored Grain Protection: Challenges, Innovations, and Industry Outlook by NovIGRain Research Project” and “Biorational methods for stored seed pest control and protection: To serve and prevent by SafeSeed project”, as well as two technical tours. The first tour was a visit to the Danubius Company. Danubius is the market leader in Serbia in the sale of flour and pasta. Throughout the years, Danubius has evolved, adapting to the changing times while preserving its timehonoured values and commitment to providing high-quality products. The second tour was a visit to the main processing facility and a Distributive Centre of the IFVCNS. This facility is used for maize, soybean and cereal processing at IFVCNS, with a capacity of 10 tons per hour, equipped with new seed sorters, pesticide applicators and packaging equipment. The Distributive Centre is a pallet storage centre with a capacity of 8000 tons (pallet places) distributed at four levels. It is equipped with an automated ventilation and sensors for continuous monitoring of temperature and humidity, and with one segment, a cold chamber, with controlled conditions, designed for storing different seed commodities. We would like to express our gratitude to the previous convenors of the group for their invaluable contributions, which have enabled this conference to become a leading forum in the field of stored product pests: Prof. Giorgio Domenichini, Cornel Adler, PhD, Prof. Shlomo Navarro, Prof. Christos Athanassiou, and Prof. Pasquale Trematerra. We would also like to thank the Faculty of Science, University of Kragujevac for coorganisation of the Conference. We express our gratitude to the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry and Provincial Secretariat for Education and Science for financial support. We thank our sponsors Sanus-M, Bio Spin, Killgerm, Oris, Agrounik, Ekosan, and Corteva for financially supporting the Conference. Additionally we would like to thank Vladimir Mikli?, PhD, head of the Sunflower Department for encouraging us throughout the preparation process of the Conference. Furthermore, we would like to thank plenary lecturers (Mirko ?or?evi?, Filip Vukajlovi? and Goran Joki?) who covered different areas of the Conference, as well as session moderators, for their engagement and invaluable support, and professional and efficient chairing of Conference sessions. We would like to take this opportunity to convey our appreciation to the Scientific and Organising committees and their untiring efforts to manage this Conference. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the conference program. We strongly believe that this conference was an engrossing and captivating discussion for every one of them. It is a great privilege for us to present the Bulletin, and we hope that this Bulletin will be both informative and enjoyable to read, and that
